The CSR project Pet School
The CSR project “Pet School – Learn about responsible pet care!” awarded in 2020 with GOLD by the Romanian Community Index 2020
Pet School is an extracurricular educational CSR project launched and developed in Romania in 2019 by the PRAIS Foundation team with the support of Nestlé Romania, through its Purina Pet Care category. The main objective of the project is to educate and inform primary school children about the responsible care of pets. The project is carried out in partnership with the Bucharest School Inspectorate and the Cluj County School Inspectorate.
The first edition of the Pet School project in Romania was awarded with GOLD in the animal protection category within the Community Index 2020, the first and only index of programs and projects developed by Romanian companies investing in communities.
During the two editions of this CSR project, 13,745 pupils from the preparatory classes to 4th grades, 26,000 members of their families and over 500 teachers from 26 schools in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca were able to benefit from educational materials: videos, informational brochures about pet care and interactive games, posters with dogs and cats breeds, all distributed free of charge in schools, through which pupils explored the world of pets, together with their teachers.
The teachers organized 401 open lessons, during which the pupils got acquainted with the two main characters of the project: Max the dog and Luna the cat. Max and Luna accompanied them in the world of dogs and cats and offered them information about their history, hygiene, language, health, superpowers, breeds and how to behave around them. The pupils were encouraged to participate in the drawing contests with the theme “The fascinating world of puppies and cats”, which were very successful, as shown by the 3,570 creative works submitted. In the 2020-2021 edition, the PRAIS Foundation team developed a new activity: “A day with my puppy or my cat!” that was received with great enthusiasm –over 280 pupils sent pictures and written materials with and about their pets.
Project Impact study
The PRAIS Foundation team conducted a survey to assess the impact of the 2019-2020 pilot edition, according to which 100% of respondent teachers considered that the project contributes to changing for the better the habits of responsibly taking care of pets.
