PACT

About the movement

PRAIS Foundation created in 2020 a new community-based educational program “The Blue Planet Counts on You!” PACT, and developed it together with Nestlé Romania, as founding partner and sponsor. After only 4 school years the project became a national movement, engaging thousands of school-aged children, their families, teachers, and the general public to reconnect with nature through knowledge and practical activities in order to protect the environment and the planet’s natural resources. PACT is promoting the creation of lifelong habits that contribute to the conservation of flora, fauna, and planetary resources, starting from childhood. Doing simple daily actions, such as planting and caring for trees and plants, keeping the green spaces, waters clean, collecting recyclable waste, conserving electricity, gas, water. Recognizing and celebrating these actions on PACT social media platforms became a strong power of example.

The national movement “The Blue Planet Counts on You!” PACT responds to the educational component of the UN Environment Programs – UNEP global plan “Towards a pollution-free planet” and of the Ministry of Education “Romanian National Strategy for Climate Change & Environment Education”.

Achievements, in the first 3 editions of PACT movement:

More than 51,000 pupils, 3,000 teachers and over 100,000 family members were involved in PACT activities.
Over 250 schools, in 143 urban and rural communities from 34 counties participated in the program.
Pupils created over 15,000 drawings, over 6,600 recycled materials artefacts and initiated 11,000 planting actions.
They also participated in over 2,850 PACT open lessons held by their teachers.

PACT objectives:

To build a large national community of responsible children and families, professors, and institutional partners towards Earth natural resources, flora and fauna conservation and protection;
To ensure children & families reconnection with nature via learning by doing PRAIS Foundation methodologies;
To ensure diversity and social inclusion in the program of economically vulnerable children and of those with special needs;
To ensure full and free access to all digital PACT educational materials & activities by children, teachers, and families.

Project development

PRAIS Foundation team designed PACT national movement as a digital ecosystem, a fluid communication hub connecting social media platforms and applications, alongside contents created by the PRAIS Foundation team. As a result, thousands of interactions and actions took place both in the virtual PACT environment and especially in schools and homes where school-aged children live every day. Moreover, in the “Blue Planet Counts on You!” PACT first national community, every pupil has become together with his family, teachers, and schoolmates, a role model for those around him in terms of caring for nature.

In the country development of PACT, the foundation’s team uses modern rapid learning methodologies, digital information materials, short films and a series of various intra-curricular activities that creatively and practically involved students throughout the school year.

Due to PACT strong capacity of dissemination, promotion, and engagement, the response from the targeted audience after the launch of the project in 2021 was beyond expectations, far exceeding the initial 15 targeted schools. Only in 2024 edition, over 206 schools with over 20,000 pupils from 143 cities and towns in 32 counties in Romania chose, for the third year in a row, and had access to all PACT educational materials and activities.

eBook PACT

In the 11 dedicated chapters, the children can learn about the selective collection of recyclable waste at home, or at school, the benefits of planting a tree or potted plant at home and how to take care of it, how they can save water and electricity, and the importance of keeping the places in their community clean & green.

At the end of key-chapters, they could find a link to a short quiz (7 Quizzes in total), where they can test their knowledge and earn a colorful badge.

PACT outcomes on 2023-2024 edition

More than 20,000 pupils, 1,850 teachers and over 40,000 family members were involved in PACT activities;
77 institutional partnerships signed with government bodies, institutions and schools;
5,500 drawings have been created, and more than 5,000 actions of planting were done by pupils as part of the main PACT movement activities;
1,800 open PACT lessons were organized by teachers, based on PACT educational materials;
PACT educational videos and eBook gather over 12,000 views reach;
PACT’s social media platforms reach over 16,300 users, engaging more than 6,000 users, and gathering 45,000 reactions;
2 media campaigns, reaching over 9 million unique readers / week were organized.

PACT Impact Study conducted within movement participating teachers shows: an average of 99% of the respondents considered the project’s activities to have a positive impact on pupils’ environmental responsibility and 98.9% of them considered beneficial to continue PACT project to encourage pupils’ care for nature & environmental responsibility. 98.9% of the teachers responded that PACT activities are considered very useful by pupils’ parents.

Public Events

Over the years we have organized 4 major public events, gathering more than 3,500 participants – pupils, professors, families, general public. Young artists, athletes, opinion leaders have transmitted motivational messages of environmental protection, healthy lifestyle in harmony with nature.

Awards

2023 Civil Society Gala III Prize – The PACT national movement was awarded at the 2023 Civil Society Gala with the III prize, Environmental Protection section.
