The PRAIS Foundation, together with Romprest – main partner, launched the fourth edition of the extracurricular educational program “Your World? Clean!” – LTC, which provides direct intervention on 2,137 4th grade pupils from 38 schools in Bucharest – Sector 1 and aims to educate the young generation for the selective collection of recyclable waste, promoting the care for nature.
The first 3 editions gathered over 8,671 students, 272 teachers from 135 schools in Bucharest, Brasov, Medgidia, Arad, Timisoara, as well as 20,000 members of the students’ families. There were 50 open lessons; students have created over 1,900 decorative objects from recyclable materials, of which 300 have been awarded; 325 eco-friendly compositions were posted directly on the website www.lumeatacurata.ro. Only in Bucharest were collected from pupils’ consumption in schools: 786 cubic meters of paper, 239 cubic meters of plastic.
“Children are open, sensitive and especially keen to learn new things. When family, school, society is constantly involved in their education, providing models and good examples, the results are amazing. We are for the third year with over 2,100 students from sector 1, we learn from LTC books, we support contests of decorative art objects from recyclable materials and environmental themes, we taught open lessons and selectively collect together with the Romprest team, then integrate everything in our communication on www.lumeatacurata.ro,” said Silvia Bucur, President of the PRAIS Foundation.
As in previous editions, all pupils received free of charge an extracurricular educational book alongside information materials for 4,000 parents, the benefits of selective collection of recyclable waste for environmental protection. The 38 schools in sector 1 are equipped by Romprest with bins for the selective collection of paper and plastic, and recyclable waste collected by students will be quantified monthly. The results of the collecting from the schools are registered on the program communication platform, www.lumeatacurata.ro, which automatically generates the top of the most active schools. At the same time, the students are engaged in two competitions: thematic compositions and the creation of decorative objects made of recyclable materials.
“In-school exhibitions allow the jury to select the best decorative works and compositions. Students are awarded in June, in a large ceremony that we have organized together with the PRAIS Foundation for 3 years. The winners receive sports and educational materials, and the schools – office equipment, which we offer annually,” said Adriana Calcan, Marketing and Communications Director Romprest.
The “Your World? Clean up!” is being carried out in an institutional partnership with the School Inspectorate of Bucharest and the City Hall for sector 1.
